“Professor Jane Golley, who caused a furore this year over comments downplaying the treatment of Uighurs, has stood down as director of Australia’s leading centre for research into China.

Professor Golley has spent more than a decade at ANU’s Australian Centre on China in the World (CIW) in a number of roles, including most recently as its director. Associate Professor Ben Hillman will act as interim director until a search process is completed.

An ANU spokesman said Professor Golley was still on leave but that it was understood she would remain as an academic at the university. .... ”
